My OV-chipkaart has expired
Your personal OV-chipkaart has a validity of five years. If your OV-chipkaart has expired, you can have it renewed.
Renew your OV-chipkaart online
You can apply for a renewed OV-chipkaart online via OV-chipkaart.nl. You will receive the balance of your old OV-chipkaart in your bank account within 15 days after your OV-chipkaart has expired. You will receive your new OV-chipkaart at home within a week. The student travel product (only if active), other subscriptions and automatic recharging will be transferred from your old OV-chipkaart to your new OV-chipkaart. You can continue to travel with your old OV-chipkaart until the date it is no longer valid. After that, use your new OV-chipkaart.
Note: Do you have your OV-chipkaart renewed after the student travel product has been discontinued? Then you have to linking the new OV-chipkaart before you can use the student travel product again!
Apply for a Temporary Student Travel Product
To bridge the time you are waiting for a replacement card, you can use the Temporary Student Travel Product. Buy an anonymous OV-chipkaart (if you don't already have one) and order the Temporary Student Travel Product online. It will be waiting for you on a pick-up machine within an hour.
Please note that the Temporary Student Travel Product is only valid for seven days and cannot be applied for indefinitely. So apply quickly for a renewed personal OV-chipkaart .
