My OV-chipkaart is defective/broken
If your personal OV-chipkaart is visibly broken, you can request a replacement card directly via OV-chipkaart.nl. On average you will receive a replacement OV-chipkaart within a week. Do you suspect that your OV-chipkaart is technically defective? First check if your card is actually defective.
First check yourself if the card is really defective
- Negative balance? Then you can no longer check in or travel with a season ticket. Top up your balance to a minimum of € 10. Then you can travel again. If you only travel by bus, a minimum top-up to €4 is sufficient.
- No negative balance? And you still have doubts about your OV-chipkaart? Then go to the counter of the public transportation company where you last checked in to have them figure out what's wrong with your card.
- Automatic reload on your card? If so, your balance may be temporarily blocked because direct debits have failed. On the OV-chipkaart website you can read what you need to do to remove the block from your card.
- Forgotten to check out? If you have not checked out 12 times, your OV-chipkaart will be temporarily blocked. You can have this block removed at the counter of the public transport company where you last checked out.
Still defective? Request a replacement card online
